The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and The Institute of Knowledge Integration (IKI) invites to the lecture of Dr. Ildus Rafikov “Collective Ijtihad and the New Maqasid Methodology” on the platform Zoom.

During the online lecture Dr. Ildus Rafikov will talk about:
– the concept of Ijtihad, its meaning and the classical approach;
– the modern interpretation of ijtihad in light of specializations and division of sciences;
– the term “collective ijtihad”;
– the new Maqasid methodology, introduced by Prof. Dr. Jasser Auda, one of the most prominent contemporary scholars of the Shari'ah.
This methodology is based on a special type of reading of the revealed texts, whereby the reader is invited to search for the purposes presented in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet. Also, such reading is to be connected to other disciplines in order to come up with a composite perception of reality based on the primary sources of Islam, and the human acquired knowledge.
Dr. Ildus Rafikov is the Managing Director of the Institute of Knowledge Integration. He holds a PhD in Ethics and Contemporary issues from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with special interest in Islamic economics, banking and finance, history and education. He also holds a master’s degree in Islamic banking and finance from the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF), Kuala Lumpur and a bachelor’s degree in Communications from IIUM.
Dr. Ildus Rafikov has written and published a number of academic articles in indexed and non-indexed journals on economic methodology, speculation, scarcity, sustainability, financial crises, banking and finance, and reform in education from a historical and contemporary perspectives.
