Call for research grants proposals 2024

The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and Institute of Knowledge Integration (IKI) invite scholars from post-Soviet countries to submit proposals for the research grants program at the IKI for the 2024 academic year. Topics may cover any research area from any discipline within Islamic Studies and must seek to be innovative, with the potential to impact research in the field. We are particularly interested in receiving proposals in such research areas as:

• Social science studies in Muslim societies;
• Reform of education in Muslim societies;
• Islamic philosophy, spirituality and literary criticism;
• Islamic civilization;
• Islamic art;
• Islamic culture;
• Islamic psychology;
• Islamic education;
• Islamic economics;
Maqāsid al-Sharī`ah, ethics and public policy;
• New methodologies in the study of the Qur’ān and Sunnah
• Renewal of Islamic thought;
• Epistemology and integration of knowledge.

IIIT and IKI award two types of grants to support research and writing by individual scholars. The first type is a 6-month grant to produce a publishable paper (6,000-8,000 words). The amount of this grant is $1,000. The second type is a one-year grant to produce a book (starting from 40,000 words). The amount of this grant is $3,000. The primary languages for papers and books are Russian and other languages of the CIS countries.

Eligibility to Apply

Scholars must be from post-Soviet countries and have a Candidate or Doctor of Science (PhD) degree in Islamic studies, law, arts, humanities, and social sciences. In exceptional cases, senior PhD students may also apply.

Application

Applications are to be submitted by email to [email protected] four times a year: by January 15, March 15, June 15, and September 15.

The full application must contain the following:

• Completed application form. 
• Proposal (not longer than 2 pages) which includes: a description of the project, timeline for completion, and proposed outcome(s). 
• Academic CV (max. 5 pages).
• A sample of research text (paper or book chapter).

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
