IKI Academy welcomes Elvira Kulieva as a new instructor to teach the courses Ijtihad, Renewal and Modernity in Contemporary Islamic Thought (ITKI 6102), and Muslim Intellectual History (ITKI 6202).
Elvira Kulieva is a doctorate researcher at the University of Freiburg, Germany, where she focuses on the modern history and contemporary use of Russian Quranic translations. In her current and previous studies, she prioritises interdisciplinary approaches by integrating the Islamic studies with the theories of Sociology and Anthropology of Islam. She has Master degrees in Islamic Studies from Hamad Bin Khalifa University (Doha, Qatar) and Civilisations studies from Ibn Haldun University (Istanbul, Turkey). Her research interests include Quranic studies, Muslim intellectual thought, Sufism, Islam and Science, and Orientalism.
